  1. would just like to thank you for a great day and the help given to me look forward to seeing you soon tony davis

  2. Fished on Monday evening with my family and friends and had an absolutely fantastic time. Mick and his team couldn’t have been more helpful and really looked after us. I was amazed at the level of help and support they gave the kids - really encouraging them and helping them along. The first thing the kids said after they got in the car was ‘can we come back tomorrow’! If you are interested in learning I would suggest this is the place to go to. The lodges were well stocked the location stunning and welcome warm – what more can you ask for?

  3. If you had 2 pennies and added one and the added 6 and subtracted 9 what is the answer,,,?? ShespanksAlot

  4. Had another session at Clegg hall yesterday and managed 30 odd fish during a days session, all caught on the top using suspender buzzers and small black gnat. Fantastic day at an excellent fishery.

  5. Good morning MIck,Just thought i would tell you what a fab time me and my 2 girls had fishing with you,They soon got the hang of it after your lessons, they have both asked me to book them in again,I must say the lessons was excellent value for money and very professional.Definately the best trout fishery in the area.Keep up the good work.kind regards Jason and gang.

  6. Just had a great evening. Only my 2nd fly fishing session. Mick is always helpful and approachable...he suggested one of his red bead headed diawl bachs........on the point ,with a buzzer dropper....bought ithem....and caught 4 with the little welsh devil within the hour. Great location to unwind at the end of the week.

  7. Fished the last 2 hours of yesterday evening and had a great session. Initially the conditions were far from ideal but as the wind dropped and the sun began to fade, the fish started rising. I ended up with 6, biggest was a large male around 7 - 8 lb, all taken on suspender buzzer. Usual warm welcome from Mick - this is a real hidden gem of a fishery.

  8. Fished this last Saturday 10.04.10 with my seven year old son and he had his first two fly caught trout, brilliant! The place is great for learners. The previous weekend I went twice and had 12 no. out the first time on buzzer and dries and 14 no. out the second time on dries only including one estimated 9 pound cock rainbow in very good condition that took a fair time to net. Mick is very helpful.

  10. Fished today 0800-1400 brilliant sport 50 fish off the surface including 4 browns and 5 cock fish . Flies were klinkhammer/F fly and suspender buzzer.Majority of fish off the larger lake where stripping the fly slowly seemed to induce takes.Several fish dropped off but most takes were strong. Excellant fishery, bird life is varied and always a warm welcome and helpful advice - wish I could go more!!

  11. I had my first visit to Clegg Hall today and will definitely be back. Despite the chilly and gusty wind the fish were on the surface for most of the 4 hours (the rises only tailing off near the end). I managed to get 11 rainbows up to about 3lb8oz. All crackers, although two or three were slim but beautifully silvery and full finned and I assume these are overwintered fish just getting back into condition. I caught the majority of the fish on a CDC hairs ear emerger and a claret shipman's buzzer, but diawl bach and invicta also took fish. Made very welcome and well informed on arrival. Cheers, I'll be back soon!

  12. i fished clegg hall 1/4/010 cracking i only fished for a couple of hours had 17 trout fin perfect hard fighting rainbows and a 6lb cock fish many thank to the owner a well stocked fishery nice location a plesurable experiance m c parker 34 tortoiseshell way norfolk

  13. First visit to the fisherie today for the last 4 hours as a taste to fly fishing. My uncle Bert and i thoroughly enjoyed the first experience, even though i didnt catch due to lack of experience, everybody else was catching regulary around me ( even my uncle pulled in two ). Im now looking at getting my own kit and heading back with determination when the weather warms up. all in all very happy with the trip and the friendly help i recieved.

  14. March 30th

Had a blinder 37 trout in 4 hours 1500 to 1900 the fish came on in between the rain showers the fish where caught on size 16 Grey Duster, and size 14 Diawl Bach Green Holo.

Starts to the season dont get any better than that,

    Thanks Mick

  15. Had my first trip of the year to CH last Tuesday and was not disappointed. Fished for 2 hours without a touch and then changed tactics. Fished for 4 hours only ang ended with 10 fish to the net largest 6.5 lbs and one dropped with 2 missed offers. Most of the fish were taken right on the bottom on a yellow buzzer and all were, as usual in tip top condition. It was a cold day but interspersed with sunny periods during which things livened up .

  16. is it any better than penine trout fisherie thnxs richard

  17. Braved the cold today - pleased I did and think everyone else did looking at the fish being carried around.

Nearly everyone managed a catch on either damsels or blood worm patterns.

Warm welcome as usual from Mike thanks for advice as well.

  18. Sunday Dec 6th 2009 11am till 4pm

Mixed weather sunshine and showers. Caught 5 Rainbows between 1 and 2lb. First fish caught on size 10 Olive Woolly Bugger, lost a fish on same fly that felt quite heavy. Changed to White and Yellow Woolly Bugger and caught 2 fish on the first two casts. Went quite after that for a couple of hours, then decided to experiment with some size 14 North Country Spiders i'd tied from Mike Hardings new book. Fishing them as single fly with a slow retrieve, had a tugg on a Snipe and Purple and also Waterhen and Bloa. I then had a change of method and fished a F Fly on the point floating on the surface with a Partridge and Orange on a dropper 4 ft back. Caught final 2 fish on this method.

  19. weather -overcast 'chance of rain' for a change,temp16c-10cvariable.1st time fly fishing although i've fished coarse/sea before, when Mck came round i explained this and he quickly gave my set up the once over, fished on a 5hour catch and keep ticket and caught 2-3lb rainbow first one on what i now know is a 'kate mclaren' (fished dry on a sinking tip line) the second on a pink apps beaded bloodworm, left having had a thouroughly enjoyable days fishing with thoughts of how soon i could get back, found the venue a very friendly and informal affair and will definitely be back!

  20. 5th Dec 2009

Last minute decision to go fishing, not been before, easy journey time and place to find, lets give it a go!

Two of us had a cracking few hours on sport tickets, landed about a dozen fish between us. Well conditioned and full tailed fish really pull your string. Great birdlife too, Kesrels, Peregrine, Buzzards and plenty of resident Swans and other species.

A really enjoyable day, definitely one to visit again soon. Give it a try.

  21. This was my first time fly fishing (I usually fish rivers for barble and chub).

Mickey (who runs the fishery), Is really friendly, he provided me with the right tackle and shown me the correct technique.

I fished for 2 hrs and caught 6 fish (between 1 lb and 5 lb).

The bad weather didn't spoil anything, I had a great afternoon's fishing for a very reasonable price.

    I definately comming back again.

    Many thanks.

    Mike.

  22. Great place to chill and have some great sport always produces good quality fish, one of the best waters I have seen for beginners good advice great water to learn how to cast lakes well laid out.

    A pleasure to fish

    Steve

  23. Fished between 10.30am and 5.30pm yesterday with a friend. I had 4 fish, 2 of which broke my previous PB. Started with a 2lb on a dry black sedge, then lost one on a buzzer dropper. Shortly after, I had another 2lb fish on the same dry black sedge; after which I landed my biggest ever trout at 14lb! My previous PB was 5lb. This was also on the same dry black sedge. I had to chase it half way around the lake as I only had a 6lb tippet! At this point, my fly was a little worse for wear, so I swopped for an orange booby with which I landed my last fish of the session at 7lb. All fish landed were on a dry fly as there was lots of surface activity.

I missed lots of other rises (one on the first cast). This was my first trip to Clegg Hall, but I will definitely be back!

  24. Had a couple of hours sport fishing today - didn't catch but saw a couple of very nice fish being landed.

There was plenty of surface activity when the wind wasn't blowing.

Plenty of advice on offer and will be back for more - thanks...

  25. Fished here last week and thoroughly enjoyed a few hours there. I am new to fly fishing and Mick gave lots of advice and fished with me for a while - he even stretched my new fly line and set up one of his rods for me to use. Didn't catch but will be back! Cheers Mick.

  26. THE BEST DAYS FISHING I HAVE HAD 4 A LONG TIME!! first fish 6lb third cast !! second fish 2lb (mike tyson) fish no 3 8lb . it was not nice kill the BIG fish but as it's a first .time !! gone colin

  27. Had a great day at CH yesterday. It was rather windy for much of the day and this put the fish off a bit. There were quite a few anglers there and most caught a few fish even though at times it was hard work. Various dry flies were the best flies of the day although a few were caught on lures. There are some big fish in both lakes and they think nothing of divivg straight for the weed beds. Some come out and as usual you loose some as well. At this time the water is gin clear and the weed is beginning to die down. I meet three gentlemen who had come to the fishery along the top road and bottomed out a few times. They were upset about the approach road but at the end of their day they were very pleased with the fishery and the number of fish they had caught. Had the wind been less forceful I think it would havebeen a bonanza day as the fish, a lot of them large were just subsurface and well within casting range. The water level was high and it was another great day at this lovely fishery

  28. Visited Clegg Hall with my wife this afternoon.

Conditions far too bright and very little breeze, but still good numbers of fish topping. What a brilliant day it turned out to be. Caught right from the start on small foam beetles and buzzers, and later on goldhead nymphs. We finished up with 32 fish including 5 rainbows of about 5lb each. All fish fought very well and had full tails.

  29. 8/9/09...Just had 3 hours fishing at Clegg hall and what a time we had, 1 had at least 15 (lost count) Chris had about the same and a guy next to us had 23. Everyone on both lakes caught even a guy who had never been before who opened his blister pack starter kit from the Range. All fish where over the 5lb mark,,,,,cannot wait to get down there again...

  30. dan holmes northallerton just called in after a day at pennine trout fishery and had a couple of hours so put a little black tadpole on and floating line had four fish from 5 - 7 lb lovely hard fighting fish cracking place will deffinatly call again

  31. dan holmes northallerton just called in after a day at pennine trout fishery and had a couple of hours so put a little black tadpole on and floating line had four fish from 5 - 7 lb lovely hard fighting fish cracking place will deffinatly call again

  32. Visited my favourite fishery today with a friend and we ended the day with 5 fish for 19lbs. Two of these were over 5 lbs and went like rockets. It was hard work as the weed is now at its height and the fish went straight for it. It was good to see a couple of youngsters being taught by their elders and there were about 16 rods fishing at the height of the day. It was good to see so many large fish topping and "stealing" a few flies from the less able anglers, me included. I lost one estimated to be about 8 or 9 lbs and that really got to me. It was about an hour before I settled down and took some more fish. I ended the day with a return of 9 plus the three I took home. At this time there has been a stocking of some larger fish and this was apparent today . It pays to fish small flies on the surface when the takes can be viscious. Lures take their share but it is very pleasurable to catch fish using dry flies. Thats true fly fishing!!

  33. Visited again Yesterday and found fish rising all over both lakes. Began on the small lake and missed the first 8 offers on a Leech which was dry and floating. As it got wet and began to sink the offers were more posative and then they just disappeared. It was another 3 hours before I took my first fish and by then I had gone onto dry flies. A size12 bivisible worked a treat and then a friend came and began to take lots off the top using a Shipmans buzzer. On spooning the fish we found lots of buzzershucks and some quite large Damsel Nymphs. The fish were just under the surface and at times went mad on anything that was floating on the top. Although I ended the day with 6 fish I enjoyed every minute of my visit, even when the sun was out it didn't affect the fishing. I,m not complaining but usually I end up with double figure catches. It made a change to have to work for the fish, all of which were in tip top condition and went like rockets.

  34. stuart whittaker; i visited clegg hall on the 28th and 29th 07 09 , not having been before i didnt know what to expect but the locals were friendly and mike the owner gave me some tips on how and where the hot spots were. the lane leading to clegg hall looks as if it has been shelled but well worth negotiating for the fishing..my first visit i did 5 hours in wich time i caught 24 rainbows each one in pristine condition and fighting fit, i didnt think fishing got any better than this but my full day ticket ended with 44 rainbows {witnessed} and was told by mick this hadnt been done for over two and a half years so you can imagine how pleased i was . a lovely fishery set in beautiful surroundings, it will be a regular venue for me in the future. id like to thank mick and the local lads for two great days fishing!!

  35. Donad Heyworth 2.8.2009

Just had 3 hours today 7 fish up to 3lb on a dawson olive what a great place to fish, always made welcome nice

    surroundings .

  36. This is a fantastic fishery and it is very peaceful, mike the manager is friendly and happy to help. We used to goto marton heath but now we have found clegg hall every saturday £18 for the day and happy days of you go. The road in needs alot of work and this must loose the fishery money. If anyone from the council reads this please contact the fishery and speak to mike and please help to sort the road

  37. Visited CH yesterday. Had an early start as staying late yeilded nothing special so started early instead. My friend had lots off the top but it was 11.30 before i got my first fish. It was hard work so I had a bite to eat and went onto the large lake. Fishing with a white minkie booby sunk low in the water I took 11 fish in reasonably quick succession, the largest being about 3.5lbs. All went like rockets. I later took a Brownie about 3.5 from the small lake on a white buzzer. The rains came down so we packed up at 3pm just in time to see the fish farmer bringing the new stock. They were some of the best conditioned fosh that I have seen for a while. Fishing was hard yesterday but thats part of the enjoyment. CH fishes differently every time you go. To cotch regularly you have to change methods and flies quite frequently but if you do so then you will be rewarded.

  38. I fish Clegg hall quite often & never fail to catch fit & healthy fish 3/5lb.

As a dry fly man you have to be on the ball but what a sight to see a trout rise for your fly, lift your rod & the game is ON..

The environment is perfect, forget your problems 7 fish at Clegg hall, Mike the boss is very good too!!!

Visited the fishery last week with some friends and was informed that the new web site was almost ready. Glad to see it up and running. The fishery is improving with a better stocking policy and Mike is working hard to clean up the hut and mow the grass and keep on top of the weed. The fish are still of a great standard and fight like fury. I noticed on our last visit many more good fish in the 5/6lbs range. This fishery is improving all the time and will as I suggested many months ago become one of the best in the area. There are a range of tickets to suit all and an ample supply of Tea or Coffee along with cold drinks too. There is always a cheerful welcome from Mike and his faithful companion Max!!

Fished on a dull still day 10th July 09. Loads of fish 3lb / 4lb just below the surface. They went mad for an orange bobby on the point and just as equally a large (size 10) white / green cats whiskers with a gold head on the dropper fished 8ft back.

Took a dozen fish upto 5 pounds and missed as many more

    Thanks Mick

I have been Fly Fishing for many years and have travelled to various locations, I must say that Clegg Hall is up there with the best of them, I really enjoyed my time there and caught 16 rainbow trout (my personal best of 12.5lb)

I highly reccomend Clegg Hall and will definately be visiting agin very soon. Gary.

Comments: I fished Clegg Hall for the first time last week (18/06/2009) and had a packed day of one take after another (mainly on an emergerging Klink Hammer). The thing I really enjoyed about this water, and gives it an edge over others, is the fish fight like fury and go like the clappers. This place is well stocked and managed, good value for money, and with a really friendly welcome. The only downside is the narrow access road, but once you carefully navigate that, the fishery is like an oasis at the other end.

The ticket office has been cleaned up and given a lick of paint but the greeting is still cheerful anf the tea and coffee still flows. The fishing was hard until my collegues and I used a "new fly" which worked very well with the fish taking it hard and fighting well. It turned an average day into a good one. Very noticable that the weed problem of previous years is not there at the moment. Fish are as usual in tip top condition

Comments: I am new to fly fishing and was a bit apprehensive on arrival. To be greeted by the owner who asked "Fancy a brew?" was not what i expected, but set the trend for the whole day. I felt welcome and relaxed; sipping tea and being introduced to the world of fly fishing with great patience.

I was then offered the chance to fish with one of the regulars who spent about an hour patiently offering advice as i untangled my line and stood om my fly.

The waters are not too big to be intimidating, and whilst there you feel a million miles from the hubub of modern life. The setting is idillic. Did i catch any fish? - as it happens - the thing is - well.......

All i can say is its not all about catching fish - it was a great day.

For the beginner, this is the place to start, you don't even need a rod, just turn up and the staff will do the rest. Also judging by the standard of the regulars i would suggest it is pretty good for the more experienced too. Just a lovely way to spend a day!! Thanks Clegg Hall - see you soon - tight lines and all that.

Fly casting takes time to learn and apart from my instructor other fishermen were keen to give me hints there is a nice family atmosphere at Clegg Hall And I look forward to many more day's fishing there I also landed two rainbow trout on my first session so went home with a grin which stayed all the way home.

Comments: I visited Clegg Hall on Saturday 11 April for the first time during a trip to see friends over Easter. Having chosen the venue after reading comments on the site, I was not disappointed. I fished throughout the afternoon in bright conditions and caught some excellent fish on a variety of flies. Fish were showing everywhere and it appeared that everyone was catching. The owner was very friendly and helpful and the fishery is extremely well planned and maintained. As a visitor, I was made very welcome and spoke to several of the regulars, who were equally as helpful. I would strongly recommend this venue and look forward to a return visit - hopefully before next Easter ! I had no problem with the access road and drive a car not a 4 x 4. Thanks for a great day and good luck.

Comments: visited clegg hall today 4/3/2009 weather man had got it all wrong no snow or rain just sunshine a nice breze and plenty of fish showing i was to enjoy 4 hours of excellent fishing on two lovely lakes i fished on a intermeadite 12'leader with legged blood worm, green nomads,green/black cats whisker these accounted for a total of severn fully finned rainbows in the 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 pound size,s and all put up a good fight all the way to the net.

while i was fishing mike the manager first made me a brew then it was off to the task of filling the pot holes in down the lane mike was still doing this when i left so come on people this is one venue you should fish every week the fish are there the warm frendly atmosphere is there and a not so bumpy lane up to the fishery

Comments: Today was the forst time I have fished Clegg Hall - I had been somewhat put off due to previous comments on the state of the lane leading to it. I was reassured today to see that the lane was actually being resurfaced!! I( am not sure how long it is likey to take but once done - Clegg Hall should be a more attractive propositon than it has been in the past ie no need to have a Sherman Tank to negotiate the pot - holes....

Comments: Visited CH again last Tuesday and found Ice over both lakes. There were one or two spots fishable but it was hard work. Its good to have a challenge somedays and this day was one of them. By lunchtime there was lots of free water but it was still hard work. The fish were topping infrequently but most were taken on the bottom using either a bloodworm or Buzzers. At the end of the day I took 9 rainbows and another good Brownie. I also had the pleasure of fishing alongside Andy Kitchenor who is the MD of The Essential Fly. Andy also found conditions were hard. Both lakes were full to overflowing but the weather spoilt things. The wind was bitter and there were frequent fine mizzley showers-still it didn't spoil our day. The fish caught were again in tip top condition and faught well.

Comments: Another fine day at CH. Cold was an understatement and Ice was prevalent until lunch time. Fishing was slow but the fish were there. Took a nice brownie about 3lbs in great condition and eventually retired at 3-30pm taking 9 rainbows on what proved a hard day. Nice change. It was good to see a few new faces on the water as well.

    Thanks Mick

Comments:This was my first time fishing at Clegg Hall, and what an experience.........On arrival at Clegg Hall the welcome we had was fantastic, very helpful & friendly.

Gary.
